PRACTICAL WAYS TO ADDRESS FUNDAMENTAL ISSUES

I have worked for the energy industry and numerous NGOs on complex reputational issues, policy and advocacy.  I am interested in solving problems and building ways of preventing them from happening again.

I have found various things work really well:

  • asking stakeholders questions and listening

  • informal conversations deliberately used to inform thinking

  • simple tools work better than complicated ones

  • using plain English in engagement, not jargon

  • taking time

  • involving senior management in engagement

Some of these are mutually contradictory of course, and I have had to work around them.
